Welcome to Sourav’s Official Website
More than 51 years ago a group of culture-minded young persons of Pramathanagar, Parsudih area situated in the extreme south of Jamshedpur Steel City ( Jharkhand ) dreamt a dream of an ideal institution of music, art and culture in their dwelling area and as a result of their indomitable will force and modest endeavour, was born SOURAV on 31st of January 1973, Under the valued guidance of the eminent and erudite personalities of Jamshedpur with the aims and objectives to promote and propagate music, art and culture in the locality and consequent upon the concerted, diligent and untiring efforts of those few founder members, Sourav has much earlier scored a colourful name as the pioneering organisation of its kind in the vast area greater Jamshedpur and it’s areas as well.
From the very beginning, expert trainers of top rank of Jamshedpur as well as from outside were assembled to teach Vocal Classical, Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrulgeeti, Dance, Guitar, Sitar, Painting, Tabla and Recitation. Besides the musical activities, Sourav has other wings like literary culture and dramaturgy. Regular literary seminars by the reputed intellectuals of Jamshedpur and time to time super famed literary personalities of Kolkata and other places as are invited to grace the occasion with their profound wisdom. Many successful dramas have been staged by the members of Sourav in different halls of the town which were highly acclaimed. Some important achievements of Sourav, in the course of its arduous journey are that it acquired affiliation of Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Miraj, Mumbai, an all-India recognised musical university, in the subjects of Classical and Semi-classical music and Dance immediately after its interception. Subsequently, it is affiliated to Bangiya Sangeet Parishad of West Bengal in the subjects of Painting and other light music like Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrulgeeti etc. An exciting event of Sourav is the night-long music function every year by the students and the teachers as well. In addition Sourav is also arranging time-to-time music conferences with the all India reputed artists in a greater shape. This is in brief, the history of origin and development of Sourav. But Sourav is not satisfied at this stage. It has wider imagination and plan to devote itself for the welfare and advancement of all sorts of cultures in the city in collaboration with other cultural institutions of Jamshedpur.
